The list below is a provisional list of the pre-ISBN Penguin titles published with green spines. It has been created from a variety of sources including the green Penguins on my shelves, and in attempting to compile it I have been given some much appreciated assistance by Jonathan Light who has traced missing titles and identified mistakes. We believe the list to be nearly complete, although there may still be some titles we have missed, particularly amongst the higher numbers.
Jonathan's research has identified some interesting anomalies such as #1857 Famous Trials VII, which has an orange spine despite all the other books in the Famous Trials series being green, and #2978 Doll by Ed McBain which is included here even though it has an orange spine, as it bears a Mystery and Crime series heading on its cover. The higher numbered titles can be difficult to classify as some appear to have been issued with orange and green spines in different issues. This is difficult to track definitively, so I encourage anyone to contact me (karynreevesATgmail.com) if they note missing or wrongly included titles, or titles sometimes published in green and sometimes in orange, and I will annotate the list accordingly.
The colour-coding in the list is there for my benefit, as it helps me keep track of the titles I own and the ones I am still searching for. The titles listed in blue link to reviews on my other blog.
